Cupping Therapy

Calgary NW

Release tension, improve circulation, and support recovery gently and effectively

When pressure alone isn’t enough to release tension, cupping offers a different kind of relief.

At Wild Roots Massage Therapy in Calgary NW, cupping is a gentle, fascia-focused technique that lifts tissue instead of compressing it. This allows tight, restricted areas to soften, breathe, and reset, without force.

Cupping is always included as an optional add-on, at no extra cost, and tailored to your treatment goals.

How You Might Know This Is Right for You

Cupping may help if you experience:

  • Chronic pain that doesn’t respond well to deep pressure

  • A feeling of being “stuck” in your upper back, shoulders, or hips

  • Recurring tension that returns quickly after a massage

  • Old scar tissue or injury that affects movement

  • Emotional tension that shows up physically in your body

Benefits You Might Notice

Clients often experience:

  • Improved circulation and blood flow to tight areas

  • Relief from adhesions, fascial restrictions, or old scar tissue

  • Less inflammation and soreness after workouts or stress

  • A calmer nervous system and more spacious breath

  • A unique sense of internal release without discomfort

What to Expect in a TMJ Massage Session

Each session starts with a brief check-in to decide where cupping might be most useful. Depending on your goals, I may use:

  • Static cupping: Cups stay in place on key tension areas

  • Gliding cupping: Cups are moved gently over the skin to break up restrictions

Cups remain in place for 5–15 minutes. You might feel a lifting, pulling, or tingling sensation. Cupping often leaves temporary circular marks (they’re not bruises) that fade within a few days. You’ll always remain in control, and we’ll adjust to your comfort.

Understanding the Science Behind Cupping

Cupping works by creating negative pressure, drawing blood and lymphatic fluid to the surface. This effect may:

  • Stimulate circulation and tissue oxygenation

  • Loosen adhesions between layers of fascia

  • Reduce inflammation and modulate immune response

  • Interrupt pain signalling by activating sensory nerves

Harvard Health also notes the therapeutic potential of cupping, especially when paired with massage, as an integrative approach to pain relief and nervous system support:

FAQs About Cupping Therapy

  • Cupping is not typically painful. Most clients describe it as a pulling or stretching sensation on the skin. We always adjust suction levels based on your comfort and feedback to ensure the experience feels supportive, not painful.

  • Cupping can leave temporary circular marks that look like bruises but are not painful. These marks are a normal part of the process and usually fade within 2–5 days.

  • Cupping aids in healing by increasing blood flow, loosening fascia, and promoting lymphatic drainage. It also helps the nervous system shift into a rest-and-repair state, making it a powerful complement to massage therapy for tension and pain relief.

  • No, you do not need to book cupping separately. Cupping is included in your massage session at no extra charge and is used only if it supports your goals. We will discuss whether cupping is right for you before your treatment.
